Sweden’s expanding semiconductor ecosystem
Sweden is making bold investments to strengthen its position in the global semiconductor landscape. Backed by the EU and national programmes through Tillväxtverket, several new initiatives are being launched across the country to build a resilient and innovation-driven value chain—from advanced materials to chip design and pilot production.
While Semiconductor Sweden serves as a platform to connect and amplify this collective effort, our mission is to spotlight the entire Swedish ecosystem—supporting collaboration, visibility, and sustainable growth across industry, academia, and research.
Major national investment to boost competitiveness
A total of 70 million SEK in new semiconductor-focused projects is being deployed—combined with 175 million SEK in co-funding from regional and national actors—via the EU’s regional development fund and Sweden’s national regional fund programme.
These investment span national level and multiple regions in Sweden, mirroring Sweden’s diverse ecosystem – learn more about our key regional competence hubs.
These efforts are aligned with the EU Chips Act and coordinated by Tillväxtverket in close collaboration with Vinnova, with the goal of supporting the green and digital transitions and reducing foreign dependence in the semiconductor supply chain.
Sweden’s national semiconductor initatives
Sweden’s investments includes two national iniatives: The Swedish Chips Competence Centre (SCCC) – Sweden’s designated node in the EU Chips Joint Undertaking and Semiconductor Sweden – Sweden’s national voice and official portal to gather the ecosystem.
SCCC and Semiconductor Sweden collaborate closely on a national level and produces a national Semiconductor Sweden newsletter (sent approximately 6 times / year) for anyone looking to stay updated with Sweden’s events and advancements within the semiconductor industry.
Swedish Chips Competence Centre (SCCC) plays a central role in coordinating Sweden’s semiconductor R&D and innovation capacity.
- Supports SMEs and deeptech startups through training and ecosystem access
- Facilitates use of EU pilot lines for testing and scaling new technologies
- Builds international partnerships and access to knowledge networks

Semiconductor Sweden coordinates the national ecosystem through broad collaboration across Sweden’s semiconductor value chain, connecting industry, academia, research institutes, incubators, and science parks.
Host is Svensk Elektronik with initial project partners: RISE, Lund University, Halmstad University, Ideon Science Park, PhotonicSweden, Region Skåne and Region Östergötland.
Co-funded by the European Union and tillväxtverket.

Tillväxtverket (2024–2028)
Halvledare – En svensk värdekedja [Semiconductors – a Swedish value chain]
Building a complete national supply chain for GaN and SiC-based semiconductors.
Partners include Chalmers, Linköping University, SweGaN, TekSiC, and ST Microelectronics. The project promotes national competence, sustainable innovation, and production independence.

Semiconductor Arena
Growing the regional innovation cluster by enhancing collaboration and infrastructure access.
The project involves KTH, RISE, and STING and focuses on enabling deeptech scaling, academic-industry partnerships, and talent development

Myfab Lund – for Swedish semiconductor innovation
Modernizing facilities and establishing a new lab in Science Village.
The project supports SMEs and researchers to prototype and scale semiconductor technologies, strengthening service capacity and research infrastructure.
Myfab Chalmers – infrastructure upgrade
Investing in safer, cleaner, and more energy-efficient cleanroom operations.
New semi-automated systems enhance safety and process reliability while reducing chemical and energy use. The project supports 30 companies and 60 research groups.
Myfab Uppsala – bridging research & industry
Enhancing equipment and services to improve outreach to tech companies.
Upgraded lithography, etching, and final processing tools improve industry access. Includes student engagement and new hires to expand industrial services
Strengthen the semiconductor ecosystem (Semiconductor Sweden)
Nationwide capacity building and strategic alignment for the ecosystem.
Host is Svensk Elektronik with initial project partners: RISE, Lund University, Halmstad University, Ideon Science Park, PhotonicSweden, Region Skåne and Region Östergötland. The initiative builds capacity, supports innovation visibility, and strengthens international research collaboration.
